A memorial gathering and tournament was recently held in Reykjavík in remembrance of the eccentric American grandmaster Robert Fischer. Spassky, formerly Fischer’s rival, attended along with grandmasters Lombardy, Portisch, Benko, Hort and Friðrik Ólafsson. All knew and had befriended Fischer in spite of him being quite a difficult person at times.

Spassky held a speech at the service in the national Culture House and served as a judge at the tournament.

At the tournament he and grandmaster Lombardy also analyzed ongoing games of the tournament in a nice and friendly setting, while joking amongst themselves quite a lot :)

I met Vigdís when she visited our camp at the 1996 national scout jamboree. She spoke a little with us and I had my picture taken with her. I had great respect for her so I was quite proud to have met her – which made it that much worse when I found out the girl I had asked to take a picture of me with her had put her finger over the lens when she took it!

She’s really lively and sweet and always used to lift my mood :)

I met Serra inside his piece, Torqued Spirals, at the Venice Biennial in 2001. My mother was talking to him..

Later she convinced him of putting up a piece in Iceland. It is called Milestones and is located on the isle of Videy.

I was quite impressed with his work, and have been a fan since :)

Björk is cool—a punk-rocker who’s matured into a cutting edge performer with the fame to make a positive difference.. I liked her jab at the fashion and furs industry with the dead swan dress for example. The fact they parade it as a “bad dress” shows how brainless they are :D

They are all so sweet!
And their music is wonderful :)

Well one of the guys is my cousin’s boyfriend.

Both he and she are really sweet people. She’s also in Amiina, a band that’s been working with and supporting Sigur Rós.

I’ve also seen Sigur Rós a couple of times on stage – they are pretty amazing

She’s a sweet and wonderful girl!
